Orange peel. (Aleuria aurantia)
Habitat:
This fungus is gregarious growing in large clumps on almost bare ground, it particularly favours newly made forest tracks, made up of scree and rotten rock.
Season:
From Autumn to early Winter.
Cooking and preparation:
After careful cleaning it needs very little else, being fairly tough just a light rinse is all that is required. It is a very versatile mushroom and if sliced thinly it makes a nice addition to all recipes that include mushrooms . It has a delightful texture and taste and with the added bonus of the colour bright orange through to yellow of this fungi, brings a extra brightness to any dish!
