Amethyst Deceiver (Laccaria amethystea)

Amethyst deceiver amethyst deciever

Habitat:

The amethyst deceiver grows in any woodland, deciduous or evergreen. It is gregarious growing over large areas.

Season:

Late Summer till early Winter.

Cooking and preparation:

They grow short and close to the ground and with the combination of having wide open gills this mushroom tends to pickup dirt very easily, so should be cleaned thoroughly. Can be dried for storage but best if stored in either, spiced alcohol or extra virgin Olive Oil, if you do, it is best to par-boil them first because they tend to ferment.

These lilac coloured mushrooms, if you get enough of them, make an excellent and unusual looking sauce to pour over ice cream! Bon appetit!
